Lagos State Unveils Revised Youth Policy to Empower Over 10 Million Youths
The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, has unveiled the Revised Lagos State Youth Policy, a groundbreaking initiative to empower over ten million youths in the state. The unveiling event held at the Luxury Party Event Centre, Alausa, was graced by key stakeholders across the youth ecosystem.
Barrister Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the State Government, described youths as "the energy, strength, hope, invention, glory, agility, compass, light, and creativity of the Greater Lagos Rising." She emphasized the critical role youths play in shaping the future of Lagos and encouraged them to actively engage with the policy while fulfilling their responsibilities.
Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, applauded the partners whose expertise and resources shaped the policy. He called on youths to embrace the initiative, highlighting accountability and transparency as key to its success. "This is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Lagos State Government to youth development," he stated.
Pharmacist (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, referred to the policy as a dynamic roadmap for unlocking youth potential. She urged youths to seize the opportunities it provides and translate its provisions into tangible outcomes, ensuring its continued relevance in addressing emerging realities.
Goodwill messages from various stakeholders further emphasized the significance of the policy. Mrs. Esther Somefun (UNFPA) underscored the importance of youth ownership and full engagement for its success. Engineer Olamilekan Adigun (NYCN Lagos State Chapter) highlighted the relevance of the policy in fostering youth participation and sustainable development. Judith Gbagidi (ActionAid Nigeria) stressed the importance of partnership and youth involvement in implementation, while Mr. Chamberlain (Youth Alive Foundation) called for collective responsibility to ensure the policy delivers positive impacts over the next five years.
